Split Second

It is funny sometimes how life can change in a split second.
Life can be so mundance, going to work, going out, all of it
seems the same after awhile.

Yet in a split second everything can change.  Sometimes in a
split second it is over, with no time to react, like when my
mom died.  Yet sometimes you have that split second when
everything seems to hang in the balance and you have time to
react.  It is in those split seconds you have a chance to
make a difference, a chance for change.

Today we were nearly killed by an oncoming car in our lane.
He was late to work, messing with some papers on the other
seat.  Not noticing his arm had swung him directly into our
path.  We were given that split second and a chance to
remember all that we have, to be thankful for our lives and
each other.

In a split second it was all over.  We were in the ditch,
without a scratch.  He will be much later to work than he
ever could have planned.  We will all be okay.  Thank god for
that split second.

So this chicken walks into a bar...

Woohoo...  I got me some real Internet now.  So the good news is now I can ramble on more often.  The bad news is, there is still nobody here to listen to it :)

For the geeks ~ I went from DirecWay Satelite (ew) to a DS1 line.  Put another way, the lag time between a web page loading went from 1.5 seconds to 30ms!

In boating news... It seems I learned an important lesson.  A boat the moves fast through water doesn't move at all on land.  Driving through Stillwater in shallow water we hit a standbar and came to a complete halt.  We all survived and it is already sorta funny.  By next year it will likely be really funny....

Drunkin Ebay

Anyone tried this?  I highly recommend it.  Typically eBay is a place to get rid of all your crap.  Have a broken VCR?  Don't throw it away, sell it on eBay.  Who would buy the broken VCR?  Drunks of course!  Funny what is a great idea with a bottle of wine and ebay.  This is my latest purchase:

An Atari 400!  Check it out, a computer using a cassette drive for storage, keys that don't even press down (like the kind at fast food places) and a whopping 16k of ram!  Believe it or not I used to get one of these from the Cambride Library all of the time when I was little.

You can see it in all of its glory at ebay -

Complete with paddles, joysticks and a few games.  I am a happy boy.  It goes into my collection of an Atari Lynx handheld, Atari 7800 gaming system, and an Atari Jaguar gaming system.  All I need is an Atari 800xl and an Atari Falcom and my collection is complete.

Gray...

So, my blog isn't pretty?  I have two things to say about that, one, I am a guy.  You can argue how much of a guy I am, but really, I am.  Making a blog cute would likely draw a lot more comments then it being kinda dull.  Two, I like gray - I am not much of a believer in hard boundries of black and white, real life is made up of grays.  So hah, believe it or not, the color was intentional :)

In other news, I just watched that piece of trash that was "Fallen Idol".  Luckily we are not a Nielsen family so use watching it did not help ABC.  For one, isn't an "affair" typically when someone who is married, or at least committed to one person, has sex with someone else?  They kept saying that Paula had an affair with Corey, yet they were both single??  I guess it was just to keep the drama...

And last but not least, I am the best FreeCell person in the world and I doubt that can be a good thing.

At Caribou...

I am at Caribou coffee cuz my internet sucks.  I just started the book, The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins.  I figured since I never actually took Biology I should read a book on it.  The trouble is I am not much of a book reader, I made it to page 5 and decided starting a blog seemed like a better idea.

So, why do people blog?  If my blog is not interesting, does that mean I am not either?  Now no cheap shots, but, really, do you think that is true?
